The Firebirds are pleased to announce the signing of CB Robert Neisen. He has agreed to the following terms:
S6: $2M
S7: $4M
S8: $2M
The Firebirds originally moved up in the S4 draft to grab Niesen and he was a Firebird for all of S4. However since he wasn't too active, we cut him and took at $1.5M penalty for both S5 and S6. We had hoped that money would become available to the player to be spent if he were back on roster, but the RC decided against it. We can live with that decision.
Niesen joins the Firebirds with the following player....
Speed: 99
Strength: 28
Awareness: 77
Agility: 24
Acceleration: 59
Catching: 24
Carrying: 20
Jumping: 24
Break Tackle: 20
Tackle: 32
He's 6'4 - 225, the exact same size Chuck Wicker was when I drafted him. 4 seasons later, he's one of the best CBs in the league and a big playmaker.
While this might be a downgrade for the Firebirds at CB to start S6, it won't be for long. Niesen was active with the Pythons for all of S5 and I'm very confident he'll be even more active now that he's a full board starter. In his first 2 seasons in the league, he's received $8M in TT and $4.5M in PT. More than half of that was invested by the Firebirds in S4. He'll be receiving additional TT this season.
We feel like Niesen was one of the top young defensive FA's available this off-season and we're happy to have landed him. Entering his later years, he should be one of the top DBs in the league. With him, Miles, and Jones on roster, the Firebirds have a great young secondary in the making as all 3 of those players are S4 guys and will grow together.
Boss Johnson was our other CB was had hoped to land, but he decided to join the Rolling Thunder.
