1. Philadelphia Firebirds
Last week: N/A
Record: 0-0
The Firebirds are the defending champs so I have to give them the benefit of the doubt when it comes to my first rankings. They have compiled an absolutely stellar offense. The main addition to their offense is that of Aaron Wilson, season 6 pro-bowler. They also re-signed Tomas Appleby which was huge for the team. At wide receiver they also have Big Sexxxy, who is probably the best receiver in the league at this point in time. Their defense has a few weak spots, but overall it will be able to stop most teams. They are lead by MLB Tye Williams, and CB Tony Miles will also look to be an impact player. Williams is an all-star caliber player, but whether or not he can carry the linebacking core with two rookie OLBs is still unknown. They may have a harder time winning the Pasta Bowl this season, as their rival from the South has seemingly improved at a faster rate this off season.
Predicted Record: 9-3
2. San Diego Stars
Last week: N/A
Record: 0-0
The San Diego Stars fell just short in the Pasta Bowl last season, but they are looking to redeem themselves. They lost famous 3 tackle a game OLB Patrick McGillicuddy and WR Aaron Wilson, but through free agency they actually improved their team. Johnny Brunxa, Jesse James and Ken Sady all chose San Diego as their final shot for a championship. Brunxa will be part of an offense that can almost match the Firebirds. DJ Johnson can be predicted to have a monster season, as he has been moved down to WR2. This means that he will have the opportunity to exploit inexperienced defensive backs. The Stars also acquired quarterback Brandon Pitzer in a trade with the Bunnies, and he is planning to cut down the teams interception problem from the prior season. Rounding out the offense is Victor Cross, Flint Marko and Jake Andrews. All three of these players are dominant and probably the best at their current positions. The defensive side of the ball looks utterly similar to that of the amazing S5 Pythons team. Leading the linebackers is pro-bowler Tomko Brewski, along with Jesse James and newly turned OLB Chuck Wicker. This line can stop the opposition, all the while causing turnover after turnover. The safety position is also quite strong, with Ken Sady and T-Dawg Sooner. The only possible weak spot for this team is at CB. Leading them are two youngsters in Marc-Andre Gionta and DeSean Holt. However, by mid-season they should be up to par with the rest of the league.
Predicted Record: 9-3
3. St. Josephs Playboys
Last week: N/A
Record: 0-0
At this point in time the Playboys still have a team that can challenge pretty much any team in the league for a win. However, it seems as if the team is crumbling from the inside. A few plays have expressed displeasure with the team, and whether or not this will affect their season is yet to be shown. Their offense is pretty stellar, lead by Toby Parker and Tyler Barabash. Barabash has a known rivalry with former HB Ben Mott, and I'm sure that he hopes to break all of his records. Unfortunately, that can be hard without a suitable FB to block for him. Right now it looks like that is one glaring weakness in the Playboys offense. The wide receiving core is set with Charlie Rice and last minute accusation Richard Smeltzer. Brett Witten is young, but he is looking to step into the starting tight end role. This teams defense looks pretty solid as well, except for the youngsters at safety. They will need to improve quickly for this team to have a chance at the Pasta Bowl. Leading the linebackers is turnover machine Javon Biggz. He should be dominant once again, and fellow linebackers Sucka Cock and Woody Avalon make up one of the best cores in the league. Liam McNasty and Brad Joiseyguy make up the last of the defense, and they should have a good season as well.
Predicted Record: 6-6
4. Roseville Bunnies
Last week: N/A
Record: 0-0
The Bunnies surprised a lot of people when they went better than .500 last season. This season they have even more talent and experience, so look for them to push for a good record. Although as a whole this team has matured, there are still some young players that may not perform to full standards. Unfortunately for the Bunnies this situation happens to be occuring at the two most important positions; HB and QB. Many people have doubted whether King Abdullah is ready to start this season, and Edgerrin Jones-Drew is still working to get to the top of his game. The main star of this teams offense is Richard Lafferty, who will try to etch his name as the top tight end of all time. Recievers Andrew Blumer and Felix Hughes will be sufficient, although neither are game breakers. On defense the Bunnies are lead by two amazing players in Shaun Stephens and Cole Dorow. Dorow has showed some hesitance with committing himself to this team, but in all likelihood he will stay as a Bunny. After playing safety last season, AJ Barnett thinks that he's ready to step into the cornerback role and it will be interesting to see how this turns out. Their safety and linebacker depth can be questioned, but it should be good enough to land them a playoff birth.
Predicted Record: 6-6
5. Carolina Cougars
Last week: N/A
Record: 0-0
The Carolina Cougars scared some teams last year with a couple of unexpected upsets. Unfortunately they could not pull it out when it mattered and didn't quite make the playoffs. I think that this will be a similar scenario in Season 7. They really lack any all-star players on the offense, and this could be a problem. Cedric Williamson has finally hit the peak of his career however, and this should turn out to be a huge benefit for the Cougars. At runningback they have sophomore Marion Barbarion. He is an alright player, but once again not good enough to change the game around. At wide receiver they've chose to start youngsters Alex Lewis III and Scott Lynch which will cause some problems for the quarterback. On defense they will be relying heavily on Eugene Johnson, as he is by far the best player that they have. He will try to take some of the load off David Sutton who has yet to prove himself as a starting corner. The linebacking core will be lead by Tyler Logan, but it will be hard for him to carry the rest of the players, especially starting on the outside. Another area that they lack, which is common in this league, is at the safety position. It'll be interesting to see if this team can pull things together.
Predicted Record: 3-9
6. Tampa Bay Rolling Thunder
Last week: N/A
Record: 0-0
This team has slowly been improving, but I don't believe that it is quite their season yet. Overall, as a team they are just too young to compete game in and game out. Last season this team relied heavily on the running game, but it will be a lot harder with Maxi Tevez-Riquelme. Luckily though, Troy Staubach has improved to a level such that he can be counted on to get the ball in the endzone. Similar to the Bunnies, the Rolling Thunder have wide receivers that are sufficient but can't put the team on their shoulders. Same goes with TE Cody Haner, who is still looking to find his game. The defensive side looks a little brighter, but there are still a few weaknesses. The main one being the lack of a second OLB. Diesel and Johnson will be counted much more than they are used to if this does not change. The strength of this team is at CB. Adam Simms and Sam Lim are two amazing players and will take most of the load. The reccuring theme in the FSJ this season seems to be the lack of talent at safety, and the Thunder are no exception. Look for this team to improve from last season, but not so much that they can knock of the Stars or Bunnies for a playoff spot.
