Redshirt Eligibility
1) Players who are eligible may elect, at their discretion, to count their rookie seasons as "redshirt" seasons. A redshirt season shall not count against a player for the purpose of retirement rules. The player's "first season" shall begin in their second season for the purpose of calculating retirement effects.
2) A player qualifies for redshirt if he earns zero performance points on the field prior to week 10 in his rookie season.
3) Alternatively, a player qualifies for redshirt if he occupies no position, prior to week 10, higher than the ones listed: QB2, HB2, FB2, WR4, TE3, OLB2, MLB2, CB4, SS2, FS2.
4) A player occupying the MLB2 position will not gain eligibility for redshirt due to his roster position if his team utilizes a 3-4 base defense, as this effectively makes him a starter (3-4, CLE, DAL, NE, NYJ, PIT, SD, SF). The player may still qualify for redshirt if he does not earn any performance points per section 2.
5) A player occupying the WR4 position will not gain eligibility for redshirt due to his roster position if his team deploys its HB1 or TE1 in the WR3 position, as this would leave the WR4 in the equivalent of the slot (WR3) position for playing time. A player occupying the WR5 position will not gain eligibility for redshirt due to his roster position if his team deploys its HB1 and TE1 in the WR3 and 4 positions, as this would leave the WR5 in the equivalent of the slot (WR3) position for playing time. The player may still qualify for redshirt if he does not earn any performance points per section 2.
6) Once the player requests and the GM agrees to redshirt status during a rookie season, it is the GM's responsibility to maintain the player's eligibility throughout the season. Any change of depth chart or playbook which nullifies the player's eligibility must be preceeded by player agreement
