With two weeks of regular season play remaining the playoff field has been set. While the North has been locked up since day one, the South was only officially decided in Week 10, where a Stars loss and a win by the Bunnies officially eliminated San Diego. Now, all attention is focused fully on the Championship games and, most important, who will be walking away on top with a shot at Pasta Bowl glory.
Southern Championship Game
Bunnies @ Pythons
Regular Season Matches: In the regular season meetings between these two teams one thing is certain - close, competitive games. Although the Pythons took 2 of 3, the most recent was an overtime win which adds more credence to the fact that these teams match up well against each other. Advantage = Neither
Offense: The Bunnies have set the pace in the league posting close to 30 points/game, however the Pythons are no slouches either. Move will provide a steady assault running the ball, however Lafferty and Normous, both 99 overall, provide match up troubles for any team. Advantage = Bunnies
Defense: The Pythons have a Pro Bowl caliber defense boasting 6 players who are 99 overall, including a dominating linebacker unit and a shutdown corner in the form of Brunxa. The Bunnies aren't quite as star-studded, however they possess the single most valuable defender in the league - Boomer. He's a sure tackler, who forces a slew of turnovers and finds the endzone more than any other defender around. The Bunnies have the best player on the field, however the Pythons are better overall. Advantage = Pythons
Intangibles: The biggest intangible here is John Madden himself. He clearly designed his game to be disadvantageous to the Bunnies and anything they do. I think Madden's personal vendetta against the team will outshine anything else this game. Advantage = Pythons
The Big Picture: The Bunnies were my pre-season favorite, however I'm going to give a vote of confidence against that here. I think Allan will get a case of fumblitis and the Pythons will take advantage. Sooner's defensive TD will be offset by Brunxa's, and the Pythons will win a close one. SouTHERN DIVISION CHAMPS = Pythons
